Organic Mattress Certifications Explained
Certification logos are most useful when you understand their scope. A material certification and a finished-product certification are not the same claim.
GOTS
The Global Organic Textile Standard applies to qualifying organic fibers and textile processing. When shopping, check whether a claim concerns a specific textile component or the finished product.
GOLS
The Global Organic Latex Standard applies to organic latex products and their chain of custody. It is commonly cited for latex layers used in natural mattresses.
GREENGUARD Gold
This certification focuses on low chemical emissions rather than whether a material is organically farmed.
Why scope matters
Avocado explicitly distinguishes finished-product certifications from component-level certifications in its current certification materials. That distinction is a useful habit for evaluating any brand.
